EXPAT REMITTANCES SURGE 31% TO RECORD USD 43.1 BILLION

Money sent home by Egyptians working abroad continued its record-breaking rise, reaching USD 43.1 billion during the first 11 months of FY2025/26 — a major boost to the country’s foreign currency inflows. According to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), remittances increased by 31.2 percent between July 2025 and May 2026 compared to the same period a year earlier.

A vital source of dollars: Remittances remain one of Egypt’s largest sources of foreign currency, helping strengthen international reserves, support the Egyptian pound, and ease pressure on the balance of payments amid ongoing regional instability. The latest figures come as Egypt awaits final IMF approval for a new USD 1.6 billion disbursement, with the Fund recently praising the country’s economic reforms and resilience despite the fallout from regional conflicts.

Why it matters: The sustained rise in remittances provides Egypt with a crucial financial cushion at a time of elevated external financing needs, reinforcing one of the country’s most important sources of hard currency and supporting broader economic stability.

EGYPT CONDEMNS IRANIAN ATTACKS ON JORDAN & GULF STATES

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry condemned of Iran’s attacks on Jordan and Gulf countries, reiterating that the security of neighboring allies is inseparable from Egypt’s own national security amid continued regional tensions. Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty also reaffirmed Egypt’s rejection of attacks targeting Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain during talks with his Iranian counterpart, calling for an immediate halt to actions that threaten regional stability.

A consistent message: Abdelatty stressed that Egypt has consistently conveyed to Tehran that neighboring states should not be drawn into broader regional conflicts and that respecting their sovereignty is essential to preventing further escalation.
